Eric Swalwell Promises a Gun Buy Back for ‘Military-Style Assault Weapons.’ The Responses are Hilarious.

The following article, Eric Swalwell Promises a Gun Buy Back for ‘Military-Style Assault Weapons.’ The Responses are Hilarious., was first published on Big League Politics.

A candidate for president who is polling at zero percent promised to ban “military-style assault weapons,” and was met with a flurry of hilarious responses after asking his followers “are you with me?”

“I am the only candidate calling for a ban and buy back of military-style assault weapons. Keep your pistols, keep your shotguns, keep your rifles. But let’s take the most dangerous guns out of the hands of the most dangerous people. Are you with me?” Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.) said in a sad attempt to pander to the anti-Second Amendment left.

The responses were exactly what one might expect to one of the least-favored presidential candidates.

“No,” InfoWars producer Rob Dew said bluntly.

“You want to ban the most commonly sold rife in the US today, and imprison anyone who doesn’t hand them over for some cash. No, I’m not with you,” said podcaster Cam Edwards.

“They are statistically the least dangerous firearms, used in under 3 percent of all firearm homicides. So no…neither I nor basic math are in favor of this nonsense,” said Heritage Foundation’s Amy Swearer.

The Tweet garnered 11,000 responses. The top responses were all negative. In short, Americans made their message clear to the candidate: the guns aren’t for sale.

Swalwell became notorious for losing several debates with Fox News host Tucker Carlson. Before entering the presidential race, he appeared to threaten to use nuclear weapons on United States citizens in the event that they rebelled if their weapons were seized by the government.

Big League Politics reported:

File this under “poor gun control messaging.”

In a Friday Tweet, Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.) set the internet on fire by insinuating that the federal government would use nuclear weapons against citizens who rebelled against it.

In May, NBC reported that Swalwell proposed a gun buyback that would force Americans to sell semiautomatic rifles to the government or face prosecution. Newsmax host John Cardillo shared the article on Friday, prompting combat veteran and right wing commentator Joe Biggs to claim that a civil war would break out if the federal government actually tried to confiscate weapons.

“So basically @RepSwalwell wants a war. Because that’s what you would get. You’re outta your f****** mind if you think I’ll give up my rights and give the gov all the power,” Biggs said.

That prompted an accidentally honest response from Swalwell.

“And it would be a short war my friend. The government has nukes. Too many of them. But they’re legit. I’m sure if we talked we could find common ground to protect our families and communities,” Swalwell said.
